I’m a sports fan and my favorite sport is football. I understand the game and love it when the quarterback gets into throwing motion and throws a long-distance pass, not in the receiver’s current location, but he throws the football where he expects the receiver to be when the ball descends onto the field of play.
Perfect Timing
I can only imagine the perfect timing that must be in place for this connection to happen. But not only timing but the preparation through individual and team practice sessions contribute greatly to the success of this potential scoring touchdown process.
The quarterback and the receiver share an intimate relationship where they know what to expect from each other. They practice together, study each other, and respect their teammate’s talents, skills, and capabilities.
As the quarterback prepares his long-distance throw, the receiver is sprinting downfield. He anticipates catching the football as it descends onto the field of play. I call this rendezvous a place called ‘there’.
What preparation must take place for this connection at the place called ‘there’?
Behind-the-Scenes Preparation
In the NFL, the offseason gives players the chance to add new methods to their offseason training and fine-tune the things they’re best at.
For some NFL players, off-season intensive training consists of:
- squats, kettlebell workouts, bench press work, pushups, sit-ups, triceps extensions, row workouts, powerlifting, sled training, and lots of speed training.
- Some players even add boxing workouts to their training regimen.
This offseason, intensive training is the behind-the-scenes regimen that prepares the player to be at his best during the 18 weeks, 17 regular-season games.
Like the football player, you need to prepare for the journey that will propel you into your regular season of dating, love, romance, and marriage during your off-season.
Yes, my Sista’s, just in case you didn’t know it, there is a dating off-season.
A season where you don’t have a significant other, you’re not dating, and you have no prospects in view.
A Place Called ‘There’
Using your vivid imagination, I want you to envision the chapter in your story titled ‘Arriving at the Place Called There’!
For the football player, ‘there’ is the exact spot on the gridiron where the receiver catches the football thrown by the quarterback.
But for you, a place called ‘there’ is in the vicinity where you will meet the man of your dreams. This place called ‘there’ could be anywhere.
‘There’ could be:
- Grocery Store
- Church
- Work
- Health club
- Doctors’ office
- Online dating sites
and so on and so on.
Timing is Everything
The crucial thing about the place called ‘there’ is that you arrive on the scene at the same time that your ordained man of God shows up.
For the biblical characters Ruth and Boaz, ‘there’ was a particular section of farmland owned by Boaz. Ruth just happened to glean wheat in Boaz field. While she was gleaning, Boaz showed up to check on his investment.
Ruth was in the correct vicinity and while she was working, Boaz spotted her.
Other females were also gleaning in Boaz’s field, but Ruth had something special and unique that caused her to stand out and catch his attention.
When Boaz spotted her, Ruth was working in the summer heat of sandy farm fields. Therefore, it was more than her makeup, nails, hips, and lips, which caused her to stand out and become a pleasant distraction.
I believe something deep within Boaz’s heart ignited the flame of attraction. And his inquiring mind wants to know, ‘WO-MAN! Who’s that Lady?’ (The book of Ruth, chapter 2)
In the bible, if you read the entire book of Ruth, which is only four chapters, you’ll see how they both received confirmation from the Lord that they were to be united in holy matrimony; and so they were.
God Has Prepared Your ‘There’!
As a single Christian woman desiring a lifetime partner, God has not forgotten about you.
Highlighted on God’s heavenly calendar are your name and the name of your future ‘Knight in Shining Armor’! It is the place called ‘there’ where God has arranged for you to meet, connect, and establish a romance that successfully and smoothly transitions through the various stages of a dating relationship. It’s a love story that culminates in commitment, engagement, and marriage.
What is Your Behind-the-Scenes Preparation Plan?
But to get ‘there’, you must establish a behind-the-scenes preparation plan.
What steps are you taking to:
- Decrease or eliminate your financial debt?
- Resist the advances from Mr. Wrong? (No matter how fine he is.)
- Resist those words that tingle your ears but, in the end, leave your soul in despair?
- Counteract the negative thoughts that say you’ll never get married; you’re too old, and you’ve missed your window of opportunity?
- Eliminate doubt, negativity, and confusion?
What steps are you taking to build:
- Strong faith during your dry, dormant season of wait?
- Hope, patience, and endurance?
- Your sensitivity to the voice of God (because if your expecting – God will reveal who your mate is not before he reveals who he is.)
Are you developing your inner beauty by:
- Establishing a deeper relationship with God?
- Loving yourself just the way you are?
Are you developing your physical beauty through:
- Getting the proper rest and sleep?
- Proper diet and exercise?
What steps are you taking for personal development through:
- Self-help materials?
- Establishing proper boundaries in the core areas of life?
- Listening to the God is Your Matchmaker podcast?
- Signing up for my freebie?
Above all, are you fine-tuning the things in which you’re best?
Move Into Action
Looking at the list above, what one-two action steps can you apply to your life this week? Do something small to start the process.
Hopefully, I’ve given you a different perspective of the behind-the-scenes preparation that is beneficial during your season (s) of waiting on God’s perfect timing.
So, let’s recap what we talked about today:
- A place called ‘There’ – the vicinity orchestrated by God where you will meet the man of your dreams.
- Trusting God to prepare you for your future spouse
- Behind-the-scenes preparation – presenting your best self to your man of God
- Receiving confirmation for both parties
My Sista’s, it’s time to embrace and maximize your season of preparation so that you can live life to the fullest, whether single or married.
